jackson hole & yellowstone guide

details + information for a well-balanced trip to both the Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks!

TRAVELING CAN BE EXPENSIVE…BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE: our trip summary

DAY 1: Henderson (drove through the night) — 9.5 hours

  • Riverton, WY / Slept in car in Hampton Inn parking lot

  • Coffee at “Brown Sugar Coffee Roastery”

  • Went to Walmart and got a cooler and groceries ($50)

  • Stopped at Jackson Lake dam

    • Walked around

  • Drove to Grand Teton national park site ($35 per park pass – valid for 7-days)

    • Ate lunch that we had packed

    • Hiked the Signal Mountain trail (6.8 miles)

  • Drove to “Snake River Lodge & Spa”

    • Where we stayed for the night

  • Went into Jackson, WY

    • “Roadhouse Pub & Eatery” – supper

    • Walked around the shops

    • Got ice-cream at “Moo’s Ice-Cream”

    • Drove back to “Snake River Lodge & Spa”

DAY 2: Woke up and went back to Jackson, WY

  • Went to “Cowboy Coffee” – ordered snickers latte, ½ sweet with oat milk

  • Shopped and purchased our seveners (Lee’s Tees)

  • Ate a quick lunch we packed

  • Hiked “snow king summit via slow trail” and went back down on “josie’s ridge”

  • Drove to Jenny Lake trail

    • Hiked (7.2 miles)

      • Saw a moose and a deer

      • Hidden falls was along trail, as well / best hike of entire trip

  • Drove to west Yellowstone (3 hours)

    • Got to west Yellowstone around 9pm

    • Got food & booked hotel for the night

DAY 3: Went from west Yellowstone through the park towards Old Faithful

  • Stopped at nearly every “sight-seeing” spot

  • Took Firehole Canyon Road which went along the Madison River

    • Best view of falls

  • Went to see Old Faithful Geyser & walked around the rest of them 100+

    • Saw 4 bison while there

  • Drove to Casper, WY (5 ½ hours)

    • Stayed the night

DAY 4: Drove home (7 hours)
