are you living your dharma?

The word dharma originates from the teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism and Ayurveda, that refers to your souls purpose. Finding your dharma makes you contemplate the big reason why you are here; it is not just what you do, but how and why you do it.

“Your dharma is not a career, or a project, or a certain role you play. It’s the unique vibration that your soul carries to everything that you do and every way that you are.” -Sahara Rose, Ayurveda expert

Instead, it connects us with our higher purpose, and allows us to go throughout our lives striving to live in perfect harmony. Your soul carries a unique vibration into everything you do and makes you who you are. For example, someone’s dharma might be bringing stability into the world. How they decide to live out this dharma could look many different ways, such as being a CEO at a mega company that deals with a wide range of personalities, or maybe a psychologist who is a constant source to trust.

So how you do you know that you aren’t living your dharma? According to Sahara Rose, you may be feeling stuck —like you’re trying to take action, but not going anywhere. Thinking about the future leaves you feeling very little excitement, and you find yourself in a cycle of surviving not thriving. Some side effects of not living out your dharma include depression, anger, feelings of worthlessness, anxiety, or unlike yourself. However, when you ARE living out your dharma, you feel joy, satisfaction, and genuine happiness knowing that you are sharing your gift to the world, and helping others on their own journey.

Why does it feel like everyone hates their job? Maybe it’s the season of life, or people are just tired from the constant emotional battle we have experienced within the past couple years. When talking to others, they share with me just how unsatisfied they are with their current work-life, and work-life balance. As being a fairly recent college graduate, I feel that there is “grind” mentality in our twenties; we are just supposed to put our head down and work within a field that we aren’t passionate about because we need the experience that every dream role in a company is looking for. Although I understand why experience is necessary, it makes me question why we do this to ourselves. Why do we continue to spend multiple hours of our days working somewhere that doesn’t fulfill us, or bring us genuine happiness. This is a cycle I have found myself in multiple times this past year, as I’ve struggled to find the area of work that makes me feel like I am living out my own dharma. I no longer question why our mental health is declining, stress and anxiety is at an all-time high, and why there seems to be a dark cloud of negativity hanging over our heads just waiting to rain on the next persons parade.

That’s why I started Divine Purpose. Although owning your own business and trying to make it grow to the point that you can live out this dream of yours as a full-time gig, I have never felt more joy than through pursing this integrative health coaching business. Even though I am still currently working in another industry that allows me to get by for the time being, I can genuinely say having Divine Purpose just feels right. It feels like my souls purpose, and I get emotional dreaming of the day when this type of work becomes my full-time purpose. Regardless of your age, I want you to dive deep into discovering your own dharma, and pursue it with your entire being. Forget about the fear of judgement, lack of financial support, or direction and focus on the support from your loved ones, the confidence in what you know about your trade, and the freedom it will give you. Break free from the hold that society has on you to embrace the grind. Instead, embrace the slow days, develop a healthy routine, and stop putting limits on your potential. Like I’ve realized time and time again, you are the only person stopping you.

Living a life of purpose and fulfillment is so much more rewarding.

with love, Bailey
